Skills & Training.

We take this valuable opportunity of having our youth for 2 years and give them as much vocational training and personal skills to allow them to successfully get their next job once they graduate. School teaches them an array of skills but sometimes soft skills can fly under the radar. We talk with the youth about soft skills and the importance of these as more and more employers are putting more emphasis on them when hiring.

Each class.
A powerful team.

After each of the BoysGrow youth have found their home among their peers, they begin to work together to run the farm, run the nonprofit, and develop a unique culinary product that they will have to present, market, and effectively sell to grocers and restaurants. Together, the BoysGrow class helps each other develop and grow, as well as doing the same for the program itself.

Hard work pays off.

Everybody remembers their first job….. At BoysGrow we value the importance of hard work and earning your own money. Our young men work hard and we pay them for the efforts. Every youth earns a paycheck with their name on it. Many times this is their first job and we want them to have that sense of pride by seeing their name on a paystub. The cost for us to employ a youth for the summer program is $1,500. This includes their wages and processing fees.

They must have the ability to get to downtown KCMO where the BG bus will transport them to the farm. They must have an interest in at least one of these fields – Agriculture, Construction, Culinary Arts, Graphic Design, Public Speaking, Sales, Animals or Landscaping. The youth can commit to the program for 2 years. And of course they have to want to make their own money and have a job.
